Nina Ricci has captured me.

June 20, 2008 - No Responses

Lately Nina Ricci has been capturing my eye. I know that it’s been around for quite some time but lately I have the urge to look around and see what the house of Nina Ricci has produced.

I know that Olivier Theyskens is in control now. He was announced to be in control only back in 2006. He tends to add himself into most of the designs. That’s what a good designer would do.

The pants on the Nina Ricci RTW Fall 2008 runway were swishing up a storm. Most of the pants had excess fabric at the top near the hips and then came in tight at the bottom. It was almost a skinny legged wind pant. Most of the girls adorned caps and sashes. It is chilly in the fall. Some of the girls even had on gloves that pulled the outfit together. The collection stayed a little safe but that’s what Ready To Wear is for. It varied a little when one girl came out with pants and a long jacket and then one came out with a mini dress on.

Overall I liked the collection. I don’t know ,if I was a girl, that I would run right out and get it. It’s more basic clothing that you have to pair with something more outrageous. I like to have colors going and the most vibrant color they used was a fall yellow.

(At the moment, I can’t post the pictures, but take a peak at 17 and 29)

Loverly Quotes about Fashion

June 16, 2008 - No Responses

I like looking around and seeing what some of my favorite people are saying.

Here are some of my favorites.

“Art produces ugly things which frequently become beautiful with time. Fashion, on the other hand, produces beautiful things which always become ugly with time.”
Jean Cocteau

“A fashion is merely a form of ugliness so unbearable that we are compelled to alter it every six months.”
Oscar Wilde

“I don’t do fashion, I am fashion.”
Coco Chanel

“Fashions fade, style is eternal.”
Yves Saint Laurent

“The goal I seek is to have people refine their style through my clothing without having them become victims of fashion.”
Giorgio Armani

There are bajillions of quote sites out there. Most of them have the same ones on them. ThinkExist is one of my favorite quote sites. Another is QuoteGarden.

The Pivovarova!

June 12, 2008 - No Responses

Sasha Pivovarova is flat out amazing. I adore this girl’s work. Her face is perfect for the modeling world.

To me, she sticks out when put next to all the other models up there now adays. She has a very small looking face. It’s not really that small but it gives the illusion. She has these eyebrows that arch downwards when they get closer to the center of her face. They give the illusion that she is mad when she isn’t smiling.

She has been in ads that have graced the covers of all the fashion magazines. The last print work that I saw her in was the new Emporio Armani make-up ads. It is just her face and she is staring dead at the camera. It’s so clean and fresh and just hard to ignore.

She left the fashion world for a while to persue a life outside of modeling. She liked art and even had a show at the Mansion Grand in Manhatten. I have to say that she is a top model in my book. I’m glad to hear that she is having a life outside of the fashion world. Some models get consumed in the world and try and always stay in which causes them to fail sadly.

Sean Avery to Intern at Vogue

June 12, 2008 - One Response

To me, I think it is a good idea. If he would rather be helping models to get down the runway instead of practicing with his team, the New York Rangers all to him. I think that if that’s what he would like to do, then why not. Why say that he can’t intern with Vogue because he is a pro hockey player. He has just as much right to intern there than anyone. I mean, he is a little older for the internship but it’s okay. The fashion world will be fine with him there. Reports have said that he is really into the fashion world and likes to look good.

He does have first hand knowledge when it comes to these things. He dates celebrities and models from all over the world. He gets to see the designs that people are wearing when he is even on the ice. The people come in their nice clothes to watch him. He can see what the celebrities are all wearing for first hand.

He makes $2 million dollars a year with the Rangers but is taking this internship with no income.

I think that he will be accepted slowly but surely. He can do this just as good as anyone else in the world. Good Luck to him.

“Banksable” The New York Times Article

June 4, 2008 - One Response

“Banksable” was written by Lynn Hirschberg in The New York Times. It was the cover story for the June 1st magazine. It starts off saying how Tyra Banks has 275 smiles and that she uses them like an athlete would use their plays. It goes on to tell how Tyra Banks became one of the most world famous models. The article talks about her many struggles along the way, most doing with her body image and what people saw wrong with her.

The main point of the article is how Tyra is making a business out of what she does. She has America’s Next Top Model, where she transforms ordinary wanna-be models into editorial high fashion models. She has the Tyra Banks Show, where she does so many different things its hard to keep up. She is also producing another show that she isn’t going to be in. She is becoming a businesswoman and is getting compared to such people as Oprah and Stewart.

I love Tyra Banks and I watch both of her shows. She is a very influencial person to many young veiwers. She says that she is hitting home with young girls of all races, but I think she hits home with many more people than that. Grown men probably watch her show and feel the same way a woman would feel. She is teaching people in a way that most people don’t try. I remember one episode where she donned a fat suit and brought along some cameras and showed that people that are obese are treated differently. She was saying that not only beautiful people should be treated nicer but everyone should be treated with respect. I have to say that she is going good and I’m glad.

Designer Clothes Sites

May 30, 2008 - 2 Responses

There are new websites that are emerging that sell designer clothes for a discounted rate. Sometimes the amount cut off is only a few dollars. It’s better for some people to be able to go home and order an article that they either couldn’t get at the store or isn’t available to get. Sometimes they store doesn’t have the right size or maybe the whole design is out.

Bluefly is one of the many prime examples of one of the emerging websites that people are going to to get their designer duds. They have different categories such as women, mens, shoes, handbages and even house goods. They have such designers from Christian Dior to Yves Saint Lauren.

Chickdowntown is another of the emerging online boutique of designers. They organize their clothes into specific types like The Basics and Summer Chic.

I know that I’m going to start getting some designer clothes from all these websites. They are convenient and they have a discount added. It’s like an all the time sale which works for me.

Hermes Bags

May 22, 2008 - 2 Responses

Hermes bags have been around for quite some time. To me, they look quite plain but when you price these suckers, they are far from a plain bill. Most of the bags sell for upwards of $4,000. Many sell for far more than that. Most of the celebritites out there need to have their Hermes Birken bags with them at all times.

1) 35cm Shiny Black pororus Croc Birkin with White Gold Hardware
2) 22cm Chocolate Togo So Kelly with PHW (it’s said that only Togo will be used in AW200 8)
3) 35cm Etoupe Togo Birkin with PHW

The Hermes name is not only on purses. It also has silk products, accesories, jewelry, watches, leather, fragrances and living. They pride themselves in having high quality and being around the world.

My opinion is that the purses aren’t anything that great. Most of them are plain and don’t have a design on them. Not saying thsat they are all plain and boring. Some do go with bolder prints and have bead work. I like some of those ones.

I’m not saying that you shouldn’t invest in them. They are a pricey product that one needs to save up to buy. It’s a thing that you can use for the rest of your life, but be careful when you buy one. Make sure it’s the right one.
